## Short definition

A precise description of the type of company that gets the most value from your product and gives the most value back — the foundation of any B2B go-to-market.

## What it is

An Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) defines the type of company you should be selling to: industry, size, geography, tech stack, business model, growth stage, and the trigger events that signal they need you now. It is built from analyzing your best existing customers — those with the highest LTV, lowest churn, fastest sales cycles, and strongest expansion — and validated against won/lost data, sales feedback, and market sizing. The ICP is the input to your Target Account List, your messaging, your channel strategy, and your qualification criteria. Get the ICP wrong and every downstream activity — ads, content, outbound, sales — leaks efficiency.

## My definition

An ICP is not a buyer persona. The ICP describes the company you sell to; the persona describes the human inside it. Mixing them is the most common B2B GTM mistake — and the reason most marketing copy ends up generic.
