## Short definition

The curated list of named companies that sales and marketing agree to pursue together as part of an Account-Based Marketing program.

## What it is

A Target Account List (TAL) is the operating contract of any ABM program. It is built by combining the Ideal Customer Profile (firmographics, technographics, geography, segment) with intent data, propensity scoring, and direct sales input on territory and pipeline goals. A good TAL is finite (typically 50 to 500 accounts depending on segment and team size), tiered (1:1, 1:few, 1:many), reviewed quarterly, and shared in CRM so every play, ad campaign, and outbound sequence is aligned to it. Without a TAL, "ABM" collapses back into generic demand generation.

## My definition

A TAL that everyone respects is worth more than a perfect TAL nobody uses. I'd rather ship a 150-account list co-signed by sales this week than a 500-account "AI-scored" list that takes a quarter to negotiate.
